Zero Gravity

Zero Gravity is the first tech startup in the world that is developing technology to identify top talent from low-income backgrounds and incubate it, so that those people can reach their full potential.

While opportunity may not be evenly distributed, raw talent is. In the UK, every year there are 50,000 students from “low-income backgrounds” who achieve top grades at school. However, roughly only a third of these students make it to top universities and even fewer into top careers. This leads to hundreds of thousands of young people not fulfilling their maximum potential.

At the heart of the work that Zero Gravity is doing in trying to unlock opportunity for all regardless of background or geography, Zero Gravity is propeling low-income students into the UK's best universities and careers powered by mentoring, masterclasses and Zero Gravity’s membership community - all provided through Zero Gravity’s platform.

Launched in 2020, Zero Gravity has already mentored 3,000+ students from low-income backgrounds into Russell Group universities. Zero Gravity is now also mentoring thousands of students into elite graduate careers, driving diversity at global companies such as HSBC and KPMG. Zero Gravity has also raised the largest scholarship fund in the UK, deploying over £800k of scholarships to low-income students in the past year.

Inside the culture

The culture behind Zero Gravity

"At Zero Gravity we’ve defined a set of distinctive values that bring everything we do back to our mission. Talent is spread evenly, but opportunity is not. We’re changing that, so that ambitious students can land the future they didn’t think possible. Our values aren’t vacuous soundbites, they’re distinctive behaviours that drive our decision-making, inform who we choose to hire and how we design our processes and products. We turn potential into action, and it's our culture that empowers us to do that.

We’re building a high-performance environment from the bottom up, through team and culture. That means we’re creating an environment where everyone is empowered by being part of a high-performing team who are turning inaction into action and solving a real social problem, at scale. We’ve brought our values to life with names and posters around the office to guide and impact our day-to-day work and all we do to enact the mission:

Stand up straight.

A defiant President Zelenskyy stares fearlessly into the camera. We believe in saying what we think and meaning what we say. We’re straight talkers who hold ourselves and others to a high standard, owning our mistakes and always striving for improvement.

Run towards danger.

18-year-old Emma Raducanu brings home the first women’s Grand Slam singles title since 1977. We push ourselves to the limit and refuse to stand still. We embrace imposter syndrome by taking risks, failing fast, and venturing into the unknown.

Change it up.

Music pioneer Jimi Hendrix can be seen shredding on his famous Strat. Innovation comes from challenging convention, so we say no to the status quo and constantly seek to disrupt our own thinking.

Make it happen.

The inspiring Prof. Sarah Gilbert, co-creator of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine owns this one. We focus on creating incredible results rather than obsessing over process. There’s an inherent drive in our work: a bias toward taking action, moving fast, and delivering what matters.
